Care Plus Anti-Insect DEET 50% Spray

Withdrawal of Care Plus Anti-Insect DEET 50% Spray under the European Biocide Regulations

With the introduction of EU Biocides Regulation (528/2102) in 2012 there has been a requirement on manufacturers to register DEET based repellents for every EU country in which they are to be sold. Registration is required for each different strength / formulation of DEET and decisions on what to register had to be made based upon the market requirements of each country. In the UK this meant that we were limited in the number of registrations that were practical and one strength / formulation had to be withdrawn – it was the 50% DEET Spray that was earmarked for withdrawal, and as such we are no longer able to offer the 50% DEET Spray to retailers in the UK and Ireland

When considering the DEET product lines for registration, Tropicare (the manufacturer of the Care Plus range), in close consultation with Keeble Agencies, took into account market success, consumer popularity and consumer choice. After due consideration it was decided to proceed with registration of the 50% DEET Lotion, the 40% DEET Spray and the 30% DEET Gel. With these three products Care Plus provides different choices in formulation and method of application (lotion / spray / gel / minispray) and the widest choice of size (from 8ml up to 200ml).

We are confident that with our wide range of Care Plus Anti-Insect DEET, Care Plus Anti-Insect Sensitive and Care Plus Anti-Insect Natural products there is an effective and suitable replacement to meet the needs of every customer. We are sorry to lose the DEET 50% Spray, but with the addition of the Care Plus 40% DEET Minispray (8ml), the Care Plus Natural Minispray (8ml) and, heading into 2014, the Care Plus Anti-Insect Natural Roll-on (50ml) our range of repellents is wider than ever.

    I have a few questions:
    1. Are Care Plus repellents (Care Plus Anti-Ins. spray 100ml 40% and Care Plus Anti-Ins.gel 80ml 30%) biocides?
    2. Are they registered Baltic states?
    I‘m waiting fromYou answer as/ap.
    Have a good day, Ligita

      Thanks for your enquiry.

Yes, all Care Plus DEET products are considered biocides under the EU regulations and require appropriate licensing and registration to be sold in individual EU states. As the UK distributor of Care Plus we have assured that all products are registered for sale in the UK and Ireland, however, I am unable to provide you with details on the licensing position in other countries.

It is my understanding that some of the Scandinavian countries, and Baltic states prohibit strengths of DEET over 20%, but it may differ from nation to nation.

To receive a full answer to your question it would be best directed to Care Plus themselves, as they are likely to have a distributor in your region. May I direct you to their webpage – where you may place your enquiry.
